Uber launches new safer ride option for seniors
Uber has launched a new account option tailored for older adults, offering a simpler and safer way for them to get around while maintaining their independence.
Available through the app’s “Family Profile,” the feature lets relatives manage trips, monitor rides in real time and assist with payments or communication when needed.
The account presents a streamlined version of the Uber app with larger text, fewer steps and easier navigation. It was designed to make rides to medical appointments, shopping trips or family visits more accessible for parents, grandparents and older relatives.
“At Uber, we’re always listening to our users’ needs, which is why with this new option, we’ve redesigned the experience from the ground up so that older adults can get around more easily and safely while maintaining their independence,” said Manuela Bedoya, safety communications manager for the Andean, Caribbean and Central American regions.
The account includes tools such as saved destinations for frequently visited places, flexible payment options using either the person’s or family manager’s card, and real-time trip tracking.
Family members can also request rides or contact drivers on behalf of the rider if assistance is needed.
The new option was developed with input from accessibility experts, rights advocates and older adults to ensure the service meets real mobility needs, Uber officials said.
