Walmart, brands launch donation campaign to support Puerto Rico’s elderly
Several consumer brands have partnered with Walmart Puerto Rico to launch “Hazte Presente,” a donation campaign to support older adults living in poverty on the island.
The effort will benefit the Fundación Pisadas de Amor, a nonprofit that serves older residents facing abandonment, food insecurity, isolation and limited access to essential resources — conditions that affect about 45% of that population in Puerto Rico, according to the group.
From Aug. 4 to Sept. 14, the purchase of two or more participating products at Walmart stores in Puerto Rico, including online orders for delivery or pickup, will generate a 25-cent donation to the foundation.
Participating brands include Colgate, Raid, OFF!, Lysol, Protex, Dasani, Sprite, Coca-Cola and Glucerna. The foundation said proceeds will go toward expanding food assistance, emotional support, community visits and other services for older people in need.
“We’ve noticed that many communities of older adults face urgent needs that often go unnoticed — such as food, companionship and day-to-day assistance. It’s vital that their voices are heard,” said Julio Enrique Soto-Cubano, president of Fundación Pisadas de Amor.
Products included in the campaign will be labeled in Walmart stores.
