Wendy’s opens 85th restaurant, invests $2M in San Juan

Wendy’s Puerto Rico opened its 85th restaurant on Piñero Ave. in San Juan.

Wendy’s Puerto Rico is expanding its footprint with the opening of its 85th restaurant, a new location on Piñero Ave. in San Juan. The $2 million investment brings 40 new direct jobs and strengthens the company’s pledge to deliver “quality, accessibility, and innovation to customers.”

Jorge Colón-Gerena, CEO of Grupo Colón Gerena (GCG), which owns the local franchise, said the brand’s growth strategy centers on exceeding consumer expectations through fresh products and modern technology.

“Our standards are high; we raise them every day to respond to a demanding, more informed customer who depends on technology and expects the best from brands,” he said. “Our mission has always been quality, and we don’t cut corners in everything we do.”

Colón-Gerena emphasized the company’s continued support for Puerto Rican agriculture and suppliers, noting millions of dollars invested annually.

“We are a distinctly Puerto Rican company that believes in the potential of our people and the quality of our products,” he said. “Our largest investment is in fresh meat, but all elements are taken into account to create the complete experience.”

The new restaurant spans nearly 3,000 square feet and features self-service kiosks, a drive-thru, and plans for digital ordering through Uber Eats and Yibzer.

Lizmarie Medina, chief marketing officer at Grupo Colón Gerena, said Wendy’s continues to source fresh beef from Coamo, eggs from Salinas, bread from Pan Pepín and local milk to maintain quality standards.
