Hamilton Sundstrand’s P.R. operations receive distinction

Hamilton Sundstrand’s electronics operation in Santa Isabel has been chosen by Bombardier Aerospace as one of this year’s eight recipients of its recently established Bombardier Achieving Supplier Excellence, or BASE, recognition award, it was announced Wednesday.
“The BASE award recognized Hamilton Sundstrand’s Puerto Rico electronics operations in achieving fact-based standards of high quality, delivery and competitiveness in 2010, in support of Bombardier’s strategy of delivering an amazing customer experience through superior performance,” the company said in a statement.
Hamilton Sundstrand, a division of United Technologies Corp., has been established on the island for 12 years, employing nearly 1,000 people at its 208,000 square-foot aerospace operation in Santa Isabel.
Conn.-based Hamilton Sundstrand provides systems for a variety of Bombardier’s aircraft programs, including the Challenger, Global, CRJ and CSeries families of aircraft.
“We are honored by this recognition from our valued customer, Bombardier Aerospace,” said Hamilton Sundstrand President David Gitlin, during the awards ceremony held earlier this month. “It validates our efforts as a company to excel in meeting or exceeding our customers’ needs while conducting our business in a socially responsible and sustainable way.”
In the last five years, Hamilton Sundstrand has cemented its commitment to the island through a number of significant investments, including a $40 million plant expansion in 1996.
