HOPE NOW Alliance, Kmart team on outreach model to help P.R. homeowners impacted by Hurricane María

The HOPE NOW Alliance, in conjunction with Kmart, are hosting a free Homeownership Recovery Center to help homeowners impacted by Hurricane María and “are feeling frustrated with the recovery process.”

“If your home was damaged and you’re feeling the financial burden, please know that there are counselors prepared to help,” said Eric Selk, executive director for the HOPE NOW Alliance.

“Families looking for guidance and support can discuss their options at no charge to understand available resources,” he said.

“We’ll have housing professionals from the non-profit sector, government agencies and lending industry experts to offer expertise and guidance,” Selk added.

“Thanks to support from Kmart, we will be able to provide face to face assistance for struggling families in key locations across the island. These multi-day events will be hosted in San Juan, Caguas and Ponce,” he added.

The schedule is as follows:

July 9-20
Kmart at Montehiedra Town Center
9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

July 23-Aug. 3
Kmart at Catalinas Mall
9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

AUG. 6-17
Kmart at Ponce Town Center
9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Homeowners attending these events will have access to financial industry experts and on Fridays, healthcare support and guidance from a Kmart Healthcare Ombudsman.

Families will also learn how to avoid scams. Experts will be available to discuss solutions, provide advice, and in some cases, enroll homeowners in program assistance, organizers said.
