Aeromexico to launch direct route from Mexico City to San Juan

Aeromexico, Mexico’s flagship airline based in Mexico City, plans to launch new service connecting that hub with Puerto Rico’s primary Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport later this year.
According to AirlineGeeks, the airline will begin service Oct. 29, offering four nonstop flights a week. Aeromexico is expected to use Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft for the new route.
The flights between Mexico City and San Juan are part of Aeromexico’s broader expansion of service to the U.S. mainland and Caribbean.
“Aeromexico is ramping up its international flight offerings with the addition of new routes to the United States and the Caribbean, starting later this year,” as Travel and World tour reported.
“The expansion comes as part of the airline’s ongoing efforts to strengthen connectivity from Mexico to key destinations across the region, driven by strong leisure travel demand and a robust recovery in international tourism,” the publication stated.
Aeromexico’s return to the Puerto Rico market comes about 10 years after the airline ended its Mexico City–San Juan route. The flights are expected to reconnect the two cities, “facilitating not just tourism but also business, diaspora travel and academic exchange,” according to Travel and Tour World.
“It provides a direct link for travelers looking to explore Puerto Rico’s vibrant culture, colonial architecture, tropical beaches, and unique status as a U.S. territory without the need for a visa for American citizens,” the publication added. “The route is expected to attract strong demand both ways — especially from Mexican travelers exploring the Caribbean and Puerto Rican travelers seeking a gateway to Latin America and beyond.”
Aeromexico also is adding routes in Phoenix, Tampa and Raleigh, North Carolina, where flights to Cancún are set to begin Dec. 19.
