The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced it has formed an inter-agency effort to protect coral reefs off the shores of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Caribbean Coral Reef Protection Group, which will consist of the EPA and other government agencies, will coordinate efforts to protect coral reefs.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded nearly $50,000 to two Puerto Rico organizations, Leaders of the World and the Scuba Dogs Society, to educate low-income communities about effective waste management, recycling and the negative effects of improper waste disposal on people’s health and water quality.
Environmental education programs, organizations struggling to rescue endangered species and community proposals to combat illegal dumps, are some of the initiatives that Toyota Foundation will support this year through its environmental grant program, awarding $80,000 to various organizations Tuesday.
