Don Q launches ‘Swim Responsibly’ tourism safety campaign

With the arrival of thousands of tourists to Puerto Rico’s beaches this summer, Don Q has launched a new campaign to raise awareness about ocean safety while celebrating the island’s coastal culture.
The initiative, titled “Swim Responsibly,” is being rolled out in collaboration with organizations including Rimas, Discover Puerto Rico, the Puerto Rico Hotel and Tourism Association, the Puerto Rico Restaurant Association, Surfrider Foundation, Viva Puerto Rico Short Term Rental Alliance and Rums of Puerto Rico.
The centerpiece of the campaign is an interactive website that gathers real-time data from meteorological institutions to provide up-to-date beach conditions. Through the site, visitors can check safety levels, warning flags and tide conditions before heading to the coast.
“For generations, Don Q has been part of our celebrations, and today we celebrate with greater purpose. With this initiative, we aim to educate people about maritime conditions. Besides promoting tourism, this effort reaffirms our commitment to social responsibility,” said Adamarie Meléndez, marketing manager for Rones at Destilería Serrallés.
The effort also extends to more than 100 food establishments, bars, chinchorros and hotels, where traditional illustrated placemats have been transformed into safety tools. Each features a QR code that connects visitors directly to the Swim Responsibly platform.
