P.R. Coffee Roasters launches online shop

Coffee lovers worldwide can visit www.puertoricocoffeeroasters.com to buy their favorite Puerto Rican java online.

As part of its plan to revitalize the island’s coffee industry, Puerto Rico Coffee Roasters has launched an online store on its website to sell Puerto Rico’s premium coffees to the world.

Some of the most familiar brands — Yaucono, Café Crema, Café Rico, Café Rioja, Café Encantos, Alto Grande and Yaucono Selecto — will be sold, company officials said Wednesday.

“This is an opportunity to expand the scope of our coffee in major world markets,” said company executive Adrián Rivera. “This company was founded with the purpose of strengthening our coffee industry, an industry with a legacy of 275 years on the island.”

“Increasing our global market presence through the Internet not only helps raise awareness of the superiority and quality of Puerto Rican coffee, but also promotes the local industry, the people who produce and harvest it,” he said.

The online store features each coffee brand, offering detailed information on each, reasonable prices, and quick and safe shipping.

“The online store responds to the great demand there is outside the island for our coffee, known in every corner of the world for its great aroma and flavor,” Rivera said. “We’re extremely committed to the industry’s development.”

Puerto Rico Coffee Roasters opened for business in 2008, upon acquiring a number of brands and two former rivals, Garrido & Co. and Encantos de Puerto Rico, cornering 75 percent of the market. Last May, the company inaugurated its $15 million roasting and distribution facility in Ponce, capable of processing 30 million pounds of coffee a year.

The 120,000 square-foot plant is the largest in the Caribbean.
