The Independent Telephone Workers Union, a 2,000 employee bargaining unit employed by Claro Puerto Rico known as the UIET, has voted to affiliate itself with the Office and Professional Employees International Union. The new group will be known as OPEIU Local Union 1971.
Looking to strengthen small businesses growth in Puerto Rico, the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico in Ponce and the U.S. Small Business Administration have partnered to exchange information and support resources in favor of the sector.
Four Puerto Rico farms will receive about $160,000 combined to develop on-site photovoltaic solar systems to slash their energy bills through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Energy for America Program (REAP), which is authorized by the 2008 Farm Bill, the agency announced.
