City Sightseeing is rolling out its trademark red, double-decker tour buses in San Juan to offer its specialized “hop-on, hop-off” tours, company and tourism officials announced Wednesday.

The service is possible through an investment of $2.7 million and the creation of 45 new direct jobs in two years, City Sightseeing Worldwide CEO Enrique Ybarra-Valdenebro said, flanked by Tourism Co. Executive Director Ingrid Rivera.

The tours will run from Old San Juan to the Condado and Isla Verde sectors, allowing tourists to catch the bus from any of the 30 stops along the route. The cost of the tickets, good for 24 hours, is will be $25 for adults and $15 for children. The tours will last 75 minutes, with 360-degree views from the bus.

“Puerto Rico is a destination with much to offer local and international travelers and I’m sure that the arrival of City Sightseeing to the island adds to our commitment to work to diversify our offer and attract the arrival of more visitors to the island, which undoubtedly will strengthen the island’s tourism industry and economic development,” said Rivera.

With the arrival of City Sightseeing to Puerto Rico, the multinational strengthens its presence in the region, where it operates in eight destinations in the United States and others in the Caribbean, Panama City and Cartegena de Indias, Colombia.

“For City Sightseeing it is a huge satisfaction to expand our presence in this region that is key for international tourism with attractive destinations like San Juan and Carolina,” Ybarra-Valdenebro said.

“Although the economic situation is complicated, Puerto Rico’s potential is very large and we’re convinced that with our service and creating synergies with other companies we’ll be capable of generating more jobs and more wealth,” he said

City Sightseeing was created in 1999 in Seville, Spain and this tour is still the backbone of its worldwide operations.

I live in San Juan, I support tourism, the island needs it. But this busses should remove residential areas from their route. Their segment through McLeary Ave is totally useless, there is nothing touristy in these street and they just add to the traffic…

It was a complete waste of money. We waited at the stop for over an hour. This happened more than once and wasted a lot of our day just waiting. It was so frustrating.
