Southwest to launch Indianapolis–Puerto Rico flights

Southwest Airlines plans to launch a new seasonal route linking Indianapolis and San Juan next summer, part of a broader push to expand air access between the U.S. mainland and Puerto Rico.
The flights, scheduled to begin June 4, 2026, will operate on Saturdays through Aug. 3. Ticket sales began this week, according to officials, marking another addition to Southwest’s growing presence in the Caribbean.
Gov. Jenniffer González and Puerto Rico Tourism Co. Executive Director Willianette Robles-Cancel announced the route, describing it as a sign of renewed confidence in the island’s tourism sector. The service is expected to generate more than $1.1 million in economic impact and add roughly 1,600 seats to Puerto Rico’s air capacity this summer, the agency said.
“The expansion of air service with Southwest Airlines demonstrates that Puerto Rico continues to position itself as a competitive and growing destination,” González said in a statement. “Each new route means more visitors, more jobs and more opportunities for our communities and small businesses linked to tourism.”
Robles-Cancel said the new connection supports the island’s strategy to attract more travelers from the U.S. mainland.
“The profile of the Island of Enchantment as an ideal summer destination continues to grow among travelers in the continental United States seeking to experience our natural and cultural attractions,” she said.
Southwest, which began operating in Puerto Rico in 2013, said in a separate statement that it will also increase flight frequencies between Orlando, Fla., and San Juan next year.
