Agustín Arellano has worked as a private pilot, air traffic controller and general director of air traffic services throughout his long career, but three years ago, the Mexican aviation pioneer took on his latest challenge: transforming Puerto Rico’s flagship airport from an obsolete relic of the 20th century into a modern world-class gateway.
Aerostar Airport Holdings, operators of the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, on Thursday marked the facility’s 60th anniversary, emphasizing its important role in Puerto Rico’s development, infrastructure and competitiveness.
In its first two years as the operator of the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, Aerostar Airport Holdings has pumped $800 million into the facility that is already showing an improved and more modern look and feel, and saw a 3 percent increase in passenger traffic last year.
