Telecommunications carrier Claro de Puerto Rico has reported 280 incidents of copper theft at its facilities this year — mostly along the island’s southwestern region — that not only cause service interruptions, but represent a safety risk as well. Last year, the company saw $4 million in losses related to the proliferation of the problem, company executives said.
Claro Puerto Rico on Wednesday became the first carrier on the island to launch subsidized broadband Internet services for low-income customers, in line with a pilot program the Federal Communications Commission announced late last year.
Telecom carrier Claro officially cut the ribbon on its newest customer service center in Guayama, to provide attention to customers in Puerto Rico’s central and southern regions.
