The Environmental Protection Agency said Tuesday it is “closely monitoring” activities related to potential munitions debris spotted in the water off the shore of the Playa Grande beach area of the Vieques National Wildlife Refuge and urged residents and tourists to heed a local beach closing.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has finalized its plan to clean up contaminated soil and groundwater at the Cidra Groundwater Contamination site, which includes portions of the Cidra commercial district and an industrial park. The EPA said Tuesday it estimates cleanup costs will be about $12.9 million.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded $120,000 to Puerto Rico’s Desarrollo Integral del Sur Inc. to help it identify sources of air pollution in the Tallaboa-Encarnación community. The community is located in an industrial area of where there are a number of petrochemical businesses. The project is called "Pulmones Saludables, Ahora!" (“Healthy Lungs, Now!”)
