The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded $249,487 to the Puerto Rico Department of Environment and Natural Resources to support wetlands protection across the commonwealth.
The annual U.S. Environmental Protection Agency report on the amount of toxic chemicals released to the land, air and water by industrial facilities in 2011 showed an 11 percent decrease for Puerto Rico over the past reporting year.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced it has formed an inter-agency effort to protect coral reefs off the shores of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Caribbean Coral Reef Protection Group, which will consist of the EPA and other government agencies, will coordinate efforts to protect coral reefs.
