The Puerto Rico Treasury Department is kicking this year’s tax season into high gear this week, when it will begin cutting tax refund checks and will open eight tax return orientation and preparation centers today, agency officials said.
The Puerto Rico Treasury Department will start mailing out today more than 990,000 single, unified tax form that will standardize the reporting process corresponding to the 2013 taxable year.
Bankruptcy filings skyrocketed in November, when a total of 823 cases were filed, representing a whopping 20 percent increase when compared to the same month last year, according to preliminary figures released by research firm Boletín de Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico bankruptcies were up 1 percent in January, when 739 cases were filed at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, research firm Boletín de Puerto Rico disclosed Tuesday.
Puerto Rico’s bankruptcy filings were down 8 percent during the 12-month period that ended in December 2012, when a total of 10,362 petitions were filed at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, according to preliminary statistics offered Wednesday by local research firm Boletín de Puerto Rico.
