The air route connecting the cities of San Juan and Fort Lauderdale, FL continues gaining popularity, as several carriers have added it to their regular flight schedules. On Sunday, Dallas-based AirTran Airways added itself to that list that includes Spirit Airlines and JetBlue, announcing the start of new service out of the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport starting in May 2012.
The list of suitors to take over the management of the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport has been whittled down to six: Flughafen Zürich, PSP, CCII, and IDC; Fraport and Goldman Sachs; GMR Infrastructure and Incheon Airport; Grupo; Aeroportuario del Sureste and Highstar Capital; Grupo Aeropuertos Avance; and. Puerto Rico Gateway Group.
The closing of the three major airports in the New York/New Jersey area ahead of Hurricane Irene prompted dozens of cancellations from the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport Saturday, stranding hundreds of passengers.
