Microsoft Corp. confirmed Friday it has reached an agreement with Plaza las Américas in Hato Rey to open its first Microsoft Store at the mall, officially joining the retail sector to sell its technology products under its own roof.
Constructora Sambil, the Venezuelan developer behind the proposed $400 million mega-shopping center in Guaynabo, is hopeful it will be able to break ground on the project this year after the Puerto Rico Supreme Court denied a motion for reconsideration presented by Plaza Las Américas that sought to paralyze the mall’s construction.
After several months of waiting for a decision, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York overseeing the Borders liquidation case granted Plaza Las Américas’ petition to retain control of the space the bookstore held at the Hato Rey mall prior to going out of business.
