The Puerto Rico Manufacturers Association sent a letter to the new executive director of the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority, Walter Higgins, stressing the need for “environmentally friendly and cost effective electric service.”
The recently announced tax reform should include measures to encourage locally financed enterprises and contain provisions aimed at creating a level playing field for local businesses, particularly small and medium enterprises, said Rodrigo Masses president of the Puerto Rico Manufacturers Association.
Given the impact on Puerto Rico’s economy from the onslaught of Hurricanes Irma and María, the collapse of the island’s power system and the changes to the U.S. tax code and its local effect, the Puerto Rico Manufacturers Association is urging the Financial Oversight and Management Board to reconsider its role and objectives.
