Despite the difficult economic climate enveloping Puerto Rico, Selectos Supermarkets is betting on growth: on Thursday it will inaugurate a new store in the heart of Santurce, the fifth one to open in a year when the grocery chain expects to reach $600 million in sales, on par with 2011.
Supermercados Econo recently received the award for Excellence in Management Quality, for its track record of quality and commitment to the industry, bestowed by the Puerto Rico Products Association.
The changing economy is making it a virtual requirement for the food industry, especially supermarkets and other retailers, to stay ahead of trends to attract consumers, said Phil Lempert, known stateside as the "Supermarket Guru” for his reputation as one of the leading analysts of consumer behavior trends in the food industry.
