UPR Molecular Center to host free entrepreneurship workshops
The University of Puerto Rico’s (UPR) Molecular Center will become the venue for a series of workshops titled “From Bench to Market,” designed to guide those interested in commercializing their scientific and technological ideas.
The first talk will be delivered by Doris Candelaria, a UPR Río Piedras campus graduate who transitioned from student to entrepreneur by founding Insu Health Design, a project focusing on creating storage solutions for temperature-sensitive medications, such as insulin
The Insu team has developed a personal-use cooling system that can be powered by solar panels. Insu Health Design was established with support from the Innovation and Marketing Support Center (UPR i+c), which encourages innovation among students, researchers and academics.
The UPR i+c and the Molecular Center came together to develop “From Bench to Market.” Its first session, “Insu Health and the Innovation Ecosystem in Puerto Rico” will be on March 14 at 2:30 p.m. in the Molecular Center’s lobby, located in Cupey near the Urban Train station. Admission is free, but registration is required.
“This invitation is for visionary university students to discover the potential of their research or business idea,” organizers said.
Insu Health Design received support from ten organizations, including the Roddenberry Foundation; Grupo Guayacán; The Catalyst Westchester County Biosciences Accelerator; Parallel18 (Pre18) of the Puerto Rico Science, Technology and Research Trust; the Bravo Family Foundation; RED Labs; Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR); MC Masschallenge; and the Department of Economic Development and Commerce of Puerto Rico.
Future “From Bench to Market” events will cover various topics, such as the Business Model Workshop (April 11), Cytoimmune Therapeutics and Gradient Orthodontics Panel (May 9), and Customer Discovery Workshop (May 23).
