2nd edition of ‘App Idol’ competition announced

“App Idol Reloaded,” the sequel to the application and video game design competition launched last year to uncover talented developers in Puerto Rico, will kick off next week, organizers announced Wednesday.

Last year’s “App Idol” event drew 450 participants. This time around, competitors will have the chance to develop their ‘apps’ and uncover their potential as a business opportunity, as professionals including lawyers, economists, graphic artists and publishers will be on hand to offer insight and advice on running a company. Puerto Rico Industrial Development Company staff will also take part to help participants walk away from the competition with a business plan in hand.

According to the competition’s schedule, the first demos must be submitted by Nov. 16. From there, the finalists will move on to other presentations, building up to the final evaluation on Dec. 2. The top three winners will get cash prizes.

Microsoft Puerto Rico, the Department of Economic Development and Commerce, the Science, Technology and Research Trust, and the Puerto Rico Gamers Association sponsor the event. For more information: http://www.appidolpr.com.
