Puerto Rico Legal Marijuana announced it will hold a medical cannabis occupational license seminar featuring a live demonstration of the extraction process on Feb. 25 at the Polytechnic University in Hato Rey.

The occupational license is a requirement from the Puerto Rico Health Department for all workers and entrepreneurs in the budding medical cannabis industry. Moreover, patients that attend the Medical Cannabis Patient Congress to be held concurrently at the university will be able to obtain the required paperwork to obtain a medical cannabis patient certification from the Health Department, organizers said.

“The seminar will spotlight the extraction and manufacturing processes of medical cannabis products in compliance with the strict requirements imposed by the Puerto Rico Health Department,” said Puerto Rico Legal Marijuana President Goodwin Aldarondo-Jiménez.

“Our commitment is to educate all sectors on the best practices related to all aspects of the industry for the benefit of patients in dire need of new treatment alternatives for debilitating conditions,” he said.

Besides extraction, a group of local industry experts will present on the subjects of security, good agricultural practices and the legal implications of the medical cannabis regulations.

Although the Rosselló administration has just filed Senate Bill 340 that intends to provide security and stability to the industry, government officials have made clear that current industry regulations will remain in effect until after the bill is signed into law.

Patients who attend the patient congress to obtain the necessary documents for cannabis certification will benefit from a discount voucher provided by NextGen Pharma.

Aldarondo anticipated a large attendance to both the occupational license seminar and to the patient congress as a result of pent-up demand for safer and more effective alternative treatments for debilitating health conditions.

“In Puerto Rico there is a high prevalence of debilitating conditions whose symptoms can be controlled in a safe way through medical cannabis,” said Aldarondo.

The 14 medical conditions authorized by the Health Department for the use of medicinal cannabis include Cancer, Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), Multiple Sclerosis, Lateral Amyotrophic Sclerosis, Crohn’s disease, fibromyalgia, Alzheimer’s, arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, and anxiety disorders.
