Contour to launch Puerto Rico-Dominica flights next month

A Contour Airlines ERJ-135 regional jet will operate the new San Juan–Dominica route.

Puerto Rico’s air connectivity will expand this fall as Contour Airlines launches new nonstop service between Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (code SJU) and Dominica, marking the carrier’s official entry into the Caribbean market.

Starting Sept. 25, Contour will operate four weekly roundtrip flights from SJU to Douglas–Charles Airport in Dominica, using its 30-seat regional jet aircraft. The service includes extra legroom, complimentary snacks and inflight service. The new route will provide the only nonstop jet connection between Puerto Rico and Dominica.

“We’re thrilled to bring Contour’s brand of reliable, comfortable jet service to the Caribbean. Launching service in Dominica is an exciting step for us, and we look forward to making it easier for Dominicans to travel and for visitors to discover Dominica, the Nature Island,” said Contour President Ben Munson.

Puerto Rico officials welcomed the move as part of efforts to restore San Juan’s role as a hub for regional air traffic.

“We’re delighted to welcome Contour Airlines to Puerto Rico with the launch of its new nonstop service between San Juan and Dominica,” said Puerto Rico Tourism Company Executive Director Willianette Robles-Cancel.

“This represents an important step in recovering intra-Caribbean capacity and reaffirms our government’s commitment to restoring connectivity via the San Juan hub,” she said. “We look forward to the positive impact this new service will have on tourism, commerce and the cultural ties that unite our islands.”

The new flights are expected to strengthen Puerto Rico’s position as a gateway to the Caribbean by offering passengers from Dominica one-stop access to destinations across the United States, Latin America and Europe.

According to the schedule, flights will depart Dominica at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, arriving in San Juan at 10:25 a.m. Return flights will leave San Juan at 4:15 p.m. and arrive in Dominica at 5:40 p.m.

The Dominica service is part of Contour’s broader regional expansion, which includes new routes between St. Thomas and Dominica.
