Kmart Puerto Rico expands with opening of new smaller concept

Just in time for the holidays and with the goal of keeping up with changing consumer shopping trends, Kmart Puerto Rico opened Wednesday a new store concept in Puerto Rico called “Kmart Express,” where it offers only the merchandise with more demand at regular Kmart stores.
The new 8,000 square-foot store is located on the second level of Plaza Carolina, between Sears and the food court. Its opening generated 10 new jobs.
Some of the merchandise to be sold at this new store will be food, household linens, toys, personal hygiene products, home cleaning products, electronics, and seasonal merchandise, among others.
Because the concept intends to provide a quick experience and facilitate the shopping experience, the merchandise of this store will be rotated depending on the season or particular needs of the community, company officials said.
“The new concept of Kmart Express is an example of innovation within the retail category. Our mission is to meet the needs of our customers and constantly look for ways to make a more accessible shopping experience”, said Dave Rodney, regional vice president of Kmart Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
“Kmart Express” offers some of the same services as its larger sister, including layaway plans, as well as new perks, such as merchandise pickup for clients who my need help getting their heavy purchases to their cars.
