Claro offers new plans to clients who bring own phones

Telecommunications carrier Claro de Puerto Rico announced Thursday a gamut of new plans exclusive to clients who bring their own devices when they sign up for service.
The unlimited, no-contract plans start at $40 a month and include 1 GB of Internet in Puerto Rico and the U.S. mainland, unlimited text, photo and video messaging, as well as roaming in the U.S. mainland and unlimited long distance calling to the same destination.
“We have developed these exclusive new plans so that customers who want to have their service with Claro don’t see the cost of a new device as an obstacle to doing so,” said Enrique Ortiz de Montellano, president of Claro.
“The main thing is for these customers to benefit from first-rate communication on our powerful network and with their own phone and an exclusive plan that includes everything and significant Internet [access],” he said.
Clients must bring GSM-enabled smartphones to switch. The activation process requires selecting a plan and inserting and activates SIM card into the device. Customers who do not have a smartphone and want to switch to Claro can also take advantage of the rates by purchasing a unit from the carrier.
