Two years after breaking ground, government officials said Monday the first phase of the ambitious $525 million Bahía Urbana redevelopment project will be completed by summer.
The Puerto Rico Land Authority will preserve 1,000 acres of wetlands as part of an agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The wetlands, which help prevent flooding and pollution of rivers, lakes and streams, to be preserved under the settlement are mostly in Loíza, and will now be protected from future commercial and industrial development.
As part of the activities it has scheduled for Architecture Week, the Puerto Rico School of Architects and Landscape Architects will sponsor a pair of workshops Friday that are open to experts and the general public interested in the development of the island’s urban environment.
