Puerto Rico retail sales for the month of November 2014 increased by $28.9 million to $3.4 billion the Puerto Rico Trade and Export Company said Thursday.
Retail sales of commercial in Puerto Rico were up 1.06 percent in September 2014 compared to the same month in 2013, Puerto Rico Trade and Export said Wednesday.
Puerto Rico retail sales reported a slight year-over-year uptick of .50 percent in August with sales reaching $2.96 billion in comparison to the same month in 2012, when activity reached $2.95 billion, representing a $15 million jump in sales, Puerto Rico Trade and Export Executive Director Francisco Chévere confirmed Thursday.
Puerto Rico’s retail sales reached $35.3 billion in 2011, reflecting a $1 billion year-over-year growth, which government officials said Tuesday is a sign “that consumers are keeping optimistic and the island’s economy is maintaining its pace toward recovery.”
If the empty shelves and aisles at several local retail establishments is any indication, Puerto Rican consumers may be spending the same, if not more, than what they did last year to shower their loved ones with candy, flowers and jewelry this Valentine’s Day.
Puerto Rico’s retail sales showed a slight increase of 1.74 percent from January to August, when total activity exceeded $22.9 billion, from the $22.5 billion during the same eight-month period in 2010, the latest report released by Puerto Rico Trade shows.
Puerto Rico shoppers kept a tight grip on their pockets during the month of April, when retail sales totaled $2.76 billion, remaining virtually flat in comparison to the same month last year.
