WASHINGTON — Diplomats representing the 15-member Caribbean Community have begun a public lobbying campaign against the use of federal excise-tax rebates by Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to subsidize rum production.
Two major local industries, rum and beer, will come together under one roof for the upcoming Rum & Beer Fest Nov. 17-18 at the Puerto Rico Convention Center.
Some 600 members representing several generations of the Bacardí family gathered at the Cataño distillery to mark the rummaker’s 150th anniversary late last week as part of the global celebrations taking place this year.
