Vieques Air Link adds new Ceiba-St. Thomas route as demand rises
Vieques Air Link is expanding its Caribbean network with a new air route between Ceiba, Puerto Rico, and St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, a service the airline says responds to demand for direct connectivity between the islands.
The service begins Dec. 5 and adds capacity for tourism and essential travel in one of the region’s busiest air corridors.
The Puerto Rican carrier, which has operated continuously for more than six decades, said the new route supports its long-term plan to expand scheduled flights while strengthening “the cultural and economic exchange” between Puerto Rico and St. Thomas.
“This new route represents an important step in the expansion of our network and in our goal of connecting Caribbean communities efficiently and affordably,” said Carlos M. Rodríguez-Colón, president of Vieques Air Link.
VAL said the Ceiba-St. Thomas connection was designed to address growing demand from tourists, medical patients and business travelers who often have limited transportation options.
“We understand the needs of residents and visitors who require more convenient travel alternatives. This service was created to meet that demand and strengthen mobility in the region,” Rodríguez-Colón added.
The route will operate four flights every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, giving travelers consistent weekend access and supporting visitor flow during peak leisure periods. The airline will introduce a promotional fare for bookings made during the first months of operation.
Along with the new scheduled service, VAL will continue operating charter flights to St. Thomas, the island-municipalities of Vieques and Culebra, Puerto Rico, and other destinations in the USVI and British Virgin Islands.
The airline moves about 75,000 passengers per year and is the only local carrier that maintains continuous service to Vieques and Culebra, which depend heavily on reliable air links for mobility, commerce and tourism.
With departures from Ceiba and the Isla Grande airport in San Juan’s convention center district, the airline said the new service reinforces its role in supporting regional economic activity as Puerto Rico looks to strengthen inter-island travel to increase visitor arrivals and business exchange.
