The Mall of San Juan offers sneak peek today

Located in an area that attracts nearly 5 million tourists per year, the mall will be the first Caribbean location for major U.S. retailers Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Located in an area that attracts nearly 5 million tourists per year, the mall will be the first Caribbean location for major U.S. retailers Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue.

High-ranking executives from Taubman and New Century Development, Inc. — developers of the $475 million The Mall of San Juan retail complex — will be on hand today to offer a sneak peek of the property to members of the media, a day before it officially opens for business.

The walk-through also comes a few days after anchor tenants Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue opened their doors for a preview.

More than 60 percent of the 650,000-square-foot shopping center’s restaurants and retailers will be unique-to-market, executives said. The property was developed through a partnership between stateside mall operator Taubman and New Century Development Inc., a Puerto Rico-based a real estate development firm responsible for building out the 30-acre parcel of land.

“The Mall of San Juan brings together an exciting collection of world-class brands that are making their first forays into Puerto Rico,” said William S. Taubman, chief operating officer for Taubman Centers. “With its distinctive offerings and beautiful setting, the center will be a favorite stop for both island residents and tourists.”

The Mall of San Juan’s retail line-up includes everything from luxury brands to shoppers’ favorites, most of which were anticipated and confirmed by this media outlet in recent weeks. (An asterisk [*] indicates a unique-to-market offering.)

Mall announces partnerships
As part of its arrival and looking to engage shoppers, The Mall of San Juan announced it will offer a number of services to enhance the visitor experience in partnership with Royal Caribbean, Hospital Auxilio Mutuo, JetBlue, Wyndham and Garage Europa Porsche Center.

“The Mall of San Juan offers a new kind of visitor experience,” said Marnie Marquina, marketing & sponsorship director. “Beyond the stores and restaurants, many of which are unique to the market, our visitors will enjoy the innovative amenities and conveniences made possible by our partners.”

The Mall of San Juan has partnered with Visa, making it the preferred method of payment at the center’s shopping, dining and entertainment venues. Visa will offer the Visa Club, exclusive to The Mall of San Juan, with cardholder promotions, access to special events and premium discounts.

Royal Caribbean and Hospital Auxilio Mutuo will sponsor a children’s play area, located on the mall’s lower-level.

Meanwhile, JetBlue will offer a variety of entertainment on the mall’s grand court stage during the center’s grand opening weekend. Starting in August, visitors to the dining terrace will be able to enjoy monthly live performances on the first weekend of each month. The future terrace will feature panoramic views across the San Juan lagoon to the city skyline and ocean.

Garage Europa Porsche will sponsor valet parking services and car exhibits, while Wyndham will sponsor the shopping center’s visitors center and customer service desk.

Finally, The Mall of San Juan has partnered with several mall retailers and restaurants to provide out-of-town guests with special offers and discounts as part of its “Passport to Shopping” program. Visitors traveling from more than 50 miles away are encouraged to stop by the customer service desk to pick up their passport and learn more about the program.

“We’re proud to be partnering with these select brands that are doing so much to enhance The Mall of San Juan shopping experience,” added Marquina.
