Vieques is getting faster wireless service through AT&T’s LTE signal.

Wireless carrier AT&T Puerto Rico announced today it has turned on 4G LTE service in Vieques, to offer customers the latest generation of wireless network technology.

“The 4G LTE launch in Vieques demonstrates our continued commitment in delivering the best mobile experience and the largest 4G LTE network,” said José Juan Dávila, general manager for AT&T Mobility Puerto Rico & the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The island municipality is a mecca for tourists and home to many hotels, including the W Vieques.

Though 4G LTE, clients will be able to tap into faster speeds for streaming, downloading, uploading and gaming, through a gamut of devices. Another benefit to LTE is that it offers faster response times, making moving through the Internet a much faster task.

“We continue to see demand for mobile Internet skyrocket, and our 4G LTE network in Vieques responds to what customers want from their mobile experience — more, faster, on the best devices,” said Ray Flores, regional vice president AT&T Puerto Rico & USVI.

LTE also allows AT&T to make more efficient use of its spectrum, as the technology creates more space to carry data traffic and services and to deliver a better network experience.
