AT&T expands 4G coverage in St. Croix
Wireless carrier AT&T has activated two new 4G mobile Internet cell sites in St. Croix that will enhance coverage and capacity for area residents and businesses and provide speeds up to four times faster than 3G, the company said Tuesday.
The areas benefiting from the two new sites include Mt. Welcome Road and Route 85 North in east Christiansted, and East End Road (and the nearby golf course), Route 60 and the surrounding area.
“Demand for wireless speed is growing rapidly, and we are excited to expand these super-fast speeds to more residents and businesses in St. Croix,” said AT&T Regional Vice President for Puerto Rico & USVI Ray Flores.
The two new St. Croix cell sites are part of AT&T’s Project Velocity IP (VIP), a three-year investment plan announced last fall to expand and enhance its IP broadband networks.
Through this investment, AT&T is supporting its customers’ growing desire for high-speed Internet access and new mobile, app and cloud-based services. As part of Project VIP, AT&T plans to add more macro cell sites nationwide by year-end 2015, as well as deploy more small cells and add more Distributed Antenna Systems to increase the density of its wireless network, the company said.
