La Concha Resort joins Marriott’s Autograph Collection after $80.2M reno

La Concha Resort, one of San Juan’s most iconic beachfront destinations, announced its official transition to Marriott International’s Autograph Collection, marking a new chapter for the property as La Concha Resort, Puerto Rico, an Autograph Collection Hotel.
This transition coincides with the completion of an $80.2 million property-wide renovation, highlighted by the opening of Japanese restaurant Tekka, the debut of Levant by Chef Michael White inside the hotel’s oceanfront seashell-shaped structure, the opening of Elemara Spa & Salon and the new AQA Oceanfront restaurant, as well as the transformation of the lobby and the unveiling of the fully renovated Suite Tower, now home to 238 suites and other new amenities.
Businessman John Paulson, owner of Paulson Puerto Rico and the Condado Collection, led the inauguration that drew the participation of Gov. Jenniffer González and other public- and private-sector representatives. The transition to an Autograph property was first announced in February 2023, as News is my Business reported.
“Each Autograph hotel is born from a unique vision with soul and history; and La Concha, since 1958, has been an icon of Puerto Rico’s culture, architecture and hospitality. This strategic investment not only marks its transformation but also reflects Paulson Puerto Rico’s commitment to the island’s sustainable economic development,” said Rolando Padua, president of Paulson Puerto Rico.
“At Paulson Puerto Rico, we continue to invest in projects that enhance the island’s tourism offering, promote collaborative partnerships and create jobs. All of this reflects the long-term vision and leadership of our founder, John Paulson, who has firmly believed in Puerto Rico’s potential,” he added.
As the first Autograph Collection hotel in Puerto Rico, La Concha Resort leads Marriott International’s exclusive, distinctive premium tier, comprising more than 330 select properties around the world recognized for their unique design and authentic experiences.
“This is a landmark moment for La Concha Resort and for Puerto Rico’s premium hospitality scene,” said Mike Rivera, La Concha’s general manager. “We’re proud to preserve La Concha’s historic legacy while introducing a sleek, modern vision that truly reflects the vibrant spirit and natural beauty of Puerto Rico.”
Meanwhile, Ben Tutt, managing partner of the Condado Collection, said “the transformation of La Concha not only honors its iconic legacy but significantly strengthens our portfolio, further elevating the experience we offer those who choose us to discover the best of Puerto Rico.”
“By becoming the first Autograph Collection property in Puerto Rico, we’re positioning ourselves as the only one within the Marriott portfolio on the island with this level of distinction, design and unique personality,” he said.
“This affiliation elevates our value proposition and allows us to offer authentic and memorable experiences to all of our guests and local visitors who choose us,” Rivera added.
