Representatives from 26 professional organizations from a cross-section of Puerto Rico’s economy, as well as thousands of businesses and workers, on Monday asked Gov. Alejandro García-Padilla and his administration for “transparency” and inclusion in the decision-making process to find solutions to the island’s precarious fiscal situation.
Puerto Rico’s automobile sales reached 7,736 units last month, 400 units less than the 8,136 cars that rolled off the lot in May 2012. The decrease represents a 4.9 percent market reduction, according to numbers released Monday by the United Automobile Importers Group (known as GUIA for its initials in Spanish).
After the long-awaited and much-touted arrival to the local market, IKEA, the Swedish/Dutch company founded by Ingvar Kamprad in 1943, opened its first store in Puerto Rico in Bayamon, last week. The concept unveiled is modeled after the one in the Canary Islands, Spain and the Dominican Republic, called an “IKEA Point” (Punto IKEA).
