QuieroMoni app empowers Puerto Rican women to save, learn, grow

With more than 86% of working women in Puerto Rico reporting they finish the month with no money in their accounts, a new fintech app aims to reverse that trend.
QuieroMoni, developed by Puerto Rican entrepreneur Frances Ríos, is described as the first mobile financial platform created by Latinas to help women save money, access financial tools and build long-term financial stability.
“We saw an urgent need for a solution designed specifically for women,” said Ríos, founder and chief executive of Moni Wealth, the parent company of QuieroMoni. “We are entering the fintech industry — a space almost entirely dominated by men, with very few women founders, and even fewer Latinas.”
The app functions as a digital shopping mall, offering users exclusive discounts, cashback and promotions from more than 150 stores. With 80% of women already making purchases via smartphone, the platform is designed to help them save as they shop. Inflation ranked as the top financial concern among women surveyed by Moni Wealth.
QuieroMoni also connects users to savings accounts, personal loans and digital insurance products — including life, cancer and disability coverage — without requiring a visit to a physical branch.
Ríos said the app reflects women’s role in the economy, noting that they drive 85% of household purchasing decisions and account for more than $6 billion in annual spending in Puerto Rico.
To address knowledge gaps in personal finance, the app includes CoachMoni, an artificial intelligence-powered assistant available 24/7 in Spanish to guide users through savings, budgeting and insurance options.
“Eight out of 10 women told us they want to learn about personal finance,” Ríos said. “CoachMoni is designed to serve as a financial ally that guides, explains and supports them without judgment.”
According to Moni Wealth’s Women Worker Survey, nearly half of working women lack an emergency fund, and many are unsure how to start building one. Money was the top concern for most respondents when thinking about their family’s well-being.
“In Puerto Rico, many women are the primary economic force in their households but face major challenges,” Ríos said. “Our mission is clear: that every woman who uses QuieroMoni finishes the month with money in her account — and greater control over her financial future.”
The app’s commercial partners include Cabo Rojo Coop, Claro, Bettina Cosmetics, Freshmart and Amazon. QuieroMoni is free to download and available on iOS and Google Play.
