Aguada launches $2.8M ‘Sueño del Pescador’ tourism devt project

The municipality of Aguada has launched a $2.8 million initiative to develop “El Sueño del Pescador,” a multi-phase tourism and economic development project aimed at revitalizing the coastal Guaniquilla sector and supporting the town’s fishing industry.
“This initiative is one of the most important of our administration,” said Mayor Christian Cortés-Feliciano. The effort will unfold in stages, with the first phase including the construction of five gazebos — one dedicated to seafood preparation and sales — as well as sidewalks, public restrooms, parking, benches, speed bumps and a public Wi-Fi hotspot.
The second component, “La Placita del Pescador,” will remodel the monument to Nuestra Señora del Carmen. The third, “La Fuente del Pescador,” will modernize the existing community fountain with a new sculpture honoring local fisherfolk.
“Without a doubt, these projects fulfill the goal of revitalizing the area and creating commercial spaces to promote the growth of small businesses, while also encouraging tourism,” the mayor said.
In addition to infrastructure improvements, the municipality has provided over $50,000 in incentives to local fisherfolk to help upgrade equipment and increase production for restaurants and tourism-related food sales.
