Claro launches wireless residential home phone service

Competition between Puerto Rico’s two largest wireless carriers, Claro and AT&T, over the mobile residential phone market is heating up, with the latter company’s introduction of its “Claro Hogar” service.
Unveiled Tuesday, “Claro Hogar” gives customers access to immediate phone service, while doing away with the need for landline telephone cable installation. As part of the package, Claro offers unlimited calling in Puerto Rico, the U.S. mainland and the U.S. Virgin Islands for $19.99 a month. The service also includes call waiting, caller ID, conference calling, and voicemail features.
“Claro Hogar” includes a free Motorola FXP handset or the Globe Surfer III modem — which gives customers mobility as they can take the home phone line wherever they want — in exchange for a two-year contract.
Just last week, AT&T unveiled its own on-the-go home phone service. It too offers monthly rate plans that include unlimited talk on the island and the U.S. mainland, as this media outlet reported.
