GUIA introduces 1st Puerto Rico auto industry report

GUIA reportThe United Automobile Importers Group (known as GUIA for its initials in Spanish), an organization that represents the Puerto Rico automotive industry, recently launched the “Puerto Rico Automotive Industry Report 2012-2013.”

This is the first time that the leading automotive industry companies on the island come together to distribute this key information and highlight its significance to the island’s economy.

This report is an initiative of the trade group whose members represent 96 percent of the total new vehicle sales in Puerto Rico: Bella Group, Chrysler group, Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Hyundai de Puerto Rico, Motorambar, Mitsubishi Motor sales of the Caribbean, Suzuki del Caribe, and Toyota de Puerto Rico.

“GUIA is committed to the development of Puerto Rico’s automotive industry. To show our commitment, we have developed this report that includes all-important data related to our industry from its history, to its relevance to the Puerto Rican economy. We hope that this report is useful to researchers and all those interested in the topic,” said José Ordeix, GUIA president.

Some of the sections and key data included in this publication are: an auto industry overview featuring Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands statistics; a complete history of the Puerto Rico automotive industry in the past 112 years, including the first person to register a vehicle on the island; finance and insurance companies’ vital contribution to Puerto Rico’s auto industry; and profiles of GUIA member companies including history, operations, dealers, top executives, corporate social responsibility programs, among others.
