PIA to host healthcare summit

The Pharmaceutical Industry Association of Puerto Rico will be holding its “Health System Reform and the Quality of Healthcare” summit Sept. 14 to provide a forum for healthcare industry professionals to share ideas about trends and practices that influence the health outcomes of the local community.

This year, the Summit will focus on the impact of the Patient Protection and Accountable Care Act and the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act enacted in 2010 at the federal level and the Puerto Rico Health Insurance Code in the quality of healthcare delivered to patients from the perspective of the different players within the healthcare system. Several sessions are scheduled to discuss the issues.

The list of speakers includes Resident Commissioner Pedro Pierluisi and Rafael Cox-Alomar, who is challenging him for the post in the upcoming November elections, Health Insurance Administrator Frank Díaz-Gines and Alicia De Stefano, associate director of strategy and planning for Merck U.S.
