Investment magnate Nicholas Prouty, founder and CEO of Putnam Bridge, will deliver the official welcome message during the opening event of the 2015 Site Selectors Guild Annual Conference on Feb. 24 in San Juan, the Puerto Rico Industrial Development Company and the Site Selectors Guild announced Tuesday.
“As the world transitions to a knowledge-based economy, the clear beneficiaries will be those people who place a premium on STEM-based education. Puerto Rico will successfully navigate this epochal change because businesses such as Honeywell Aerospace, Lufthansa Technik, and Microsoft share my unwavering conviction in the quality of the local workforce,” said Prouty, who will be introduced at the event by PRIDCO Executive Director Antonio Medina-Comas.
“It is for this reason alone that we continue to invest hundreds of millions of dollars here. Our disproportionately high number of university educated, quality conscious professionals will guarantee Puerto Rico a seat at the global table,” Prouty said.
“Our island will not just be known as the ‘miracle in the Caribbean’ but more importantly it will become a shining example of rebirth; where a long history of manufacturing, especially in highly regulated industries such pharmaceuticals, and deep traditions of Latin culture, collide with state of the art business and government practices,” he added.
“Speaking before the Site Selectors Guild is a great honor because it provides an opportunity to enlist influential people in the reinvention and restoration of Puerto Rico as a hemispheric and global powerhouse,” said Prouty, whose firm has been active in Puerto Rico, making significant investments such as the acquisition of Ciudadela, a mixed use real estate development in Santurce, and Puerto del Rey, the largest marina in the Caribbean.
The 2015 Annual Conference will mark the fourth consecutive year that the Guild has held the event, which has become the largest and gathering of business location experts and economic development professionals in the world.
