Puerto Rico’s arts and crafts industry has been quietly gaining ground in recent years, driven mostly by a growing need to generate additional income or embark on a new career as the economy takes its toll on traditional employment.
Puerto Rico has a great opportunity and can be a powerful competitor in global tourism but it has a way to go to reach those goals, as it must first become a stronger player in the island’s economic development, where it only represents between 6 percent and 8 percent of the overall activity.

This weekend, the Puerto Rico Convention Center in Miramar will host one of the year’s most appetizing conventions, The Bakery & Restaurant Show 2011, now in its third edition. Last year, the event generated more than $10 million in sales for local industry players.

The Puerto Rico Convention Bureau will represent the Puerto Rico Convention Center during the upcoming American Society of Association Executives Annual Meeting & Expo taking place in St. Louis Aug. 6-9. The event is one of the convention industry’s largest gatherings of meeting planners of the year.
