‘Pon de Plaza’ service carts 25K passengers in 6 months
The “El Pon de Plaza” service offered at shopping center Plaza Las Américas carted its 25,000th passenger Tuesday, six months after the free transportation began in September 2013.
All of the passengers aboard the bus at the time received Plaza Las Américas gift cards and other prizes, mall officials said. The courtesy transportation service offers a ride to passengers between Hato Rey and the shopping center during the busy lunch hour. It was initially meant to last three months, but was extended in January, when additional stops were added.
The service is now expected to continue, as more pick-up and drop-off points are looped in.
“Recognizing passenger number 25,000, we symbolically also thank everyone for welcoming this service provided to the area of Hato Rey,” said Franklin Domenech, general manager of Plaza Las Américas.
“Hundreds of people use the ‘Pon de Plaza’ daily to come to Plaza to have lunch, do some quick shopping or run an errand,” he said. “The ‘Pon de Plaza’ transports our passengers easily and conveniently at noon, and they can return to work quickly and without having to drive.”
