The Big Think Group nabs international award for Merck campaign

The Big Think Group's “Take action to help keep your asthma under control" campaign for Merck, featuring Puerto Rican singer Olga Tañon, has received international recognition.

The Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals recently bestowed its Platinum Award to The Big Think Group a local public relations, communications and marketing firm, for its work with pharmaceutical Merck.

The firm won the prestigious MarCom 2011 statuette for the communications and public relations program entitled “Take action to help keep your asthma under control.” The Big Think Group’s campaign was selected among more than 6,000 entries from throughout the United States, Canada and several other countries that participated in the 2011 competition.

This year’s winners range in size from individual communicators to media conglomerates and Fortune 500 companies. The AMCP’s MarCom Awards recognizes the achievements in creativity and excellence in the communications and public relations field and the awardee’s efforts are seen as benchmarks for the industry.

“We appreciate the vote of confidence from our client, Merck, to develop an educational program of impact and relevant to local audiences, and the entire team that worked on it,” said Bernardo Fiol-Costa, president of The Big Think Group. “Awards like these affirm our passion for thinking big in everything we do.”

“Take action to help keep your asthma under control,” institutional program sought to educate the public about the importance of knowing the condition and encourage them to visit their doctor to control asthma. Asthma is one of the most prevalent health conditions in Puerto Rico.

The campaign that had as spokeswoman Puerto Rican singer and asthma patient, Olga Tañónn, was endorsed by the Department of Health and major medical associations in the island.

The Big Think Group was founded in 2003 and has among its portfolio of clients T-Mobile, Merck, FedEx, and Healthsouth, among others.
